Greenwood, Indiana
All 3 School Districts Calendar and Back-to-School Guide for 2026–2027
School Start Dates, Homecoming Games, Enrollment Information and Helpful Links
Back-to-school season has officially arrived in Greenwood—and depending on where you live, it may have arrived sooner than you expected!
One thing families moving to Greenwood quickly learn is that the area is served by three different public school corporations: Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation, Greenwood Community School Corporation and Center Grove Community School Corporation.
Each district follows its own academic calendar, enrollment process and activity schedule. To help local families and those planning a move to Greenwood, I have gathered important dates and helpful resources for the 2026–2027 school year.
Please remember that dates and event details can change. Families should always confirm information directly with their school or district.
2026 First Days of School
Unlike previous versions of this guide, the three Greenwood-area school districts do not begin classes on the same day.
Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation
First student day: Wednesday, July 29, 2026
Clark-Pleasant serves Whiteland, New Whiteland and portions of eastern and southern Greenwood.
Greenwood Community School Corporation
First student day: Tuesday, August 4, 2026
Greenwood Community Schools primarily serves families living in central Greenwood.
Center Grove Community School Corporation
First student day: Wednesday, August 5, 2026
Center Grove serves much of western Greenwood, portions of Bargersville and surrounding areas.
Because the three districts begin on different dates, families should be careful not to rely on a general “Greenwood schools start date.” Always check the calendar for your child’s specific school corporation.
2026 Homecoming Dates
Homecoming is one of the most anticipated parts of the fall semester. Students, alumni and community members come together for spirit days, pep rallies, football games, dances and plenty of school pride.
Whiteland Community High School
Homecoming football game: Friday, September 18, 2026
Opponent: Perry Meridian
Center Grove High School
Homecoming football game: Friday, September 25, 2026
Center Grove is scheduled to play Lawrence Central at home that evening.
Greenwood Community High School
Greenwood Community High School’s official 2026 Homecoming date has not yet been announced on the school’s website.
Families should continue checking the Greenwood Community High School calendar and athletics pages for an official announcement.

Which School District Serves My Greenwood Address?
A Greenwood mailing address does not automatically mean a student will attend Greenwood Community Schools.
Depending on the property’s location, a Greenwood address may be served by:
- Clark-Pleasant Community School Corporation
- Greenwood Community School Corporation
- Center Grove Community School Corporation
School placement is based on district boundaries and the property’s physical location—not simply the city listed in the mailing address.
Families should verify school assignments directly with the appropriate district before purchasing or leasing a home. Online real estate listings and third-party school websites can occasionally contain outdated or incorrect information.
Can My Child Attend a Different School District?
Here is an important detail for families moving within Johnson County: living inside one school district does not always mean your child must attend that district.
Indiana families may apply for their student to attend a public school corporation outside their residential district through the receiving district’s inter-district, out-of-district or nonresident transfer process.
For example, a family may live within one Johnson County school district but apply for a student to attend Center Grove, Greenwood Community Schools, Clark-Pleasant or another participating Indiana public school corporation.
However, a transfer is not automatic or guaranteed. Each receiving district establishes its own application process, deadlines and available openings. Indiana school corporations report their transfer-request deadlines to the Indiana Department of Education.
Where to Find Current Transfer Information
Families can review statewide transfer information through the Indiana Department of Education:
https://www.in.gov/doe/students/school-safety-and-wellness/public-school-transfers/
Center Grove’s transfer information is available here:
https://www.centergrove.k12.in.us/new-student-enrollment/transfer-application-information
For Greenwood Community Schools and Clark-Pleasant, contact the district enrollment office or visit the district website for the current application, deadlines and available grade levels.
Because policies, deadlines and capacity can change from year to year, always confirm the requirements directly with the receiving school corporation.
The good news for families moving to Johnson County is that a home’s assigned school district may not be the only public-school option available. The key is to research early, apply during the correct window and receive official approval before making plans around a particular school.
Important Scheduling Information for Families Moving to Greenwood
In addition to the first day of school, families should review several other dates and requirements before the school year begins.
New-student registration
Enrollment requirements may include:
- Proof of residency
- Parent or guardian identification
- The student’s birth certificate
- Immunization records
- Previous school records
- Custody documentation, when applicable
Exact requirements vary by district and student grade level.
Transportation
Bus routes, bus numbers and pickup times may not be released until shortly before school begins. Families should verify transportation information through their district’s official parent portal or transportation department.
Orientation and back-to-school events
Elementary meet-the-teacher nights, middle school orientations, freshman events and high school schedule pickups may occur before the first student day.
Families moving during the summer should check their individual school’s calendar—not only the corporation-wide calendar.
Fall athletics
Students participating in school athletics may have practices, physical requirements, registration deadlines or team activities before the academic year begins.
High school football also starts quickly after students return, so families should review the official athletics schedules for game dates, ticket information and possible schedule changes.
School communication systems
Parents may need access to several platforms for grades, assignments, transportation notices, lunch accounts and district announcements.
After enrollment, ask the school which apps and online portals your family should download or bookmark.
School breaks
Be sure to add each district’s fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, teacher workdays and eLearning days to your family calendar.
The schedules are not necessarily identical across Clark-Pleasant, Greenwood and Center Grove.
A Back-to-School Checklist for Greenwood Families
Before your child’s first day, remember to:
- Complete student registration
- Confirm the correct school district
- Verify the assigned school
- Review the district calendar
- Check transportation arrangements
- Locate school supply lists
- Attend orientation or meet-the-teacher events
- Update emergency contacts
- Complete athletic registration and physical forms
- Set up lunch and school-payment accounts
- Download district communication apps
- Add school breaks and major events to the family calendar
A little preparation now can prevent the first week of school from feeling like a group project where nobody read the instructions.
Moving to Greenwood, Indiana?
When families begin searching for homes in Greenwood, school district location is often one of their biggest considerations.
As a local Greenwood REALTOR®, I can help buyers better understand:
- Which school district serves a particular property
- Where district boundary lines are located
- Which neighborhoods are near certain schools
- Commute times from different areas of Greenwood
- Community amenities near each neighborhood
- How to verify school information before making an offer
While REALTORS® cannot select or rank schools for buyers, I can provide reliable district resources so families can research academics, extracurricular activities, transportation and programming based on their own priorities.
